The Corners Project/New York

Manhattan is incredible: its history, architecture, design, museums, celebrities and art have been celebrated in countless movies, books and articles. Names like Broadway, Wall Street, SoHo and Harlem stirr the imagination of people around the world.

Still, the most impressive force behind it all remains largely uncelebrated: ordinary New Yorkers. Their amazing diversity and the stories their faces tell. Many times in the subway I tried to imagine the villages where my fellow riders came from. And their parents. Vikings, Massais, Gypsies, Aztecs, Shoguns, Potato Faminers and Mongolian Horsemen on the 6 train.

This is a tribute to that magic.

All these portraits were taken in the course of 3 years from random people in 5 specfic corners of Manhattan, from Wall Street to East Harlem.
By sitting for days at a time on one spot and shooting passersby I tried to capture some of that energy you get walking these streets, a glimpse of that amazing mosaic that is New York.

I hope these images will touch you like NY touched me, thank you.
